MY START

I got started in geology at a young age, my father was an equipment operator at the Pine Point mine in the NWT. I spent a lot of time picking up rocks when I was a kid. I started working in the uranium business in 1996, spending my first winter in the Rabbit Lake area with Cameco Corporation in northern Saskatchewan. I spent the next 20 years working on Cameco projects all over Canada, including the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Quebec. I also had the opportunity to be involved in exploration in the U.S. and Australia.

SUCCESS STORIES

 

I've had a chance to be involved with several exploration successes. I was part of the team that initially discovered and delineated the Millennium uranium deposit. Most of the next 10 years was spent delineating several deposits including the Millennium, Tamarack, and Eagle Point deposits. My team also successfully outlined several new mineralized showings. As part of Cameco's technical team, we outlined over 250 mlbs. of uranium resources over 10 years.

MY EXPLORATION PHILOSOPHY

 

I believe you need to explore by testing your exploration search space with a firm eye on your model and deposit footprint. Look at your expected structural controls and potential geochemical and geophysical vectors and design a program to interrogate your project. If results are negative and you've tested your search space, move on or find a way to expand your search space. Persisting on trying to expand mineralization that does not have the footprint or hydrothermal envelope to develop an economic deposit is throwing money away.

MY INTERESTS

 

My personal interests include collecting mineral samples, reading, soccer, and all things computer related.  I've also dabbled in playing guitar and origami. My favorite mineral samples come from the Pine Point mine in the Northwest Territories, where I grew up.

 

FUN FACTS

 

The coldest weather I've been in is -52.3 degrees. At that temperature, metal becomes brittle and diesel fuel gels. I've been as far north as Cambridge Bay in Nunavut and as far south as Melbourne, Australia. The richest uranium ore I've held was 85% U3O8, pretty hot stuff!
